The Ontario Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) is a legal framework designed to protect the privacy and confidentiality of individuals' personal health information in Ontario, Canada.

Enacted on November 1st, 2004, PHIPA ensures that data handling promotes privacy and efficient delivery of healthcare services by establishing explicit guidelines for collecting, using, and disclosing personal health information by health information custodians, including hospitals, healthcare providers, and insurers.

With limited exceptions, it empowers individuals with the right to access their health information and request corrections or amendments to their health data records. PHIPA also ensures strong protection and monitoring of personal health information by providing remedies for violations and an independent review procedure for complaints.
