2023 saw AI capabilities reach new heights, with several tech giants releasing their own models. Each model is consistently being trained on new data, thus resulting in a more effective and efficient iteration after every new update. On paper, it is easy to see why many consider it a flashpoint for innovation and productivity for organizations globally.

However, AI regulations to ensure these capabilities' responsible and ethical use have also been the subject of immense interest. Most major economies are either in the process of or have already drafted regulatory proposals to regulate the industrial development and use of AI.

Naturally, a thorough and comprehensive understanding of global AI regulations and their resulting obligations will determine how effectively an organization can leverage these AI capabilities.

The AI Convention, developed by the Council of Europe and sometimes referred to as the AI Treaty, is intended to be the first major international convention on AI that will be legally binding on all countries that choose to be a part of it.

This is a fairly broad question and may depend on several factors. Firstly, some countries may decide to expand the enforcement powers of existing regulatory bodies to include AI regulations. Alternatively, new bodies may also be established.

These include being overly exposed to algorithmic bias, limited understanding of context, and an inability to true creativity. There are several other drawbacks related to AI, but for now, these are the most immediate challenges facing AI.

The EU's Artificial Intelligence Act (EU AI Act) will likely become a major blueprint for other countries hoping to legislate their own versions of AI regulations. Like the GDPR, the AI Act aims to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for AI technologies across the European Union while addressing various aspects of AI, including ethics, safety, and accountability.
