What is a Hacker?

Hacker refers to an individual with illicit intentions and advanced knowledge in computer systems and networks who utilizes their skills to gain unauthorized access to computer systems, networks, or data. Multiple categories of hackers exist, such as white hat hackers (ethical hackers who assist in identifying and repairing security vulnerabilities), black hat hackers (malicious hackers who participate in illegal activities), and gray hat hackers (people who operate somewhere in between ethical and malicious hacking). Hackers use various techniques, tools, and exploits to exploit weaknesses and obtain unauthorized access to systems for their own gain, data theft, or to cause trouble.
