A RoPA is a comprehensive document that records an organization’s processing activities. It provides comprehensive visibility into aspects of data processing, such as whose personal data is being processed, what category of personal data is involved, why the data is being processed, how the data is processed, or what specific processing activities are performed, with whom the data is shared and for what purpose, and for how long the data is retained.

Although RoPA is crucial for an organization’s internal accountability, it’s a legal requirement under most data privacy laws.
