What is Extensible Markup Language (XML)?

XML, which stands for “Extensible Markup Language,” refers to a text-based data format used to structure and store data in a human-readable and machine-readable way. It consists of tags that define elements, attributes, and the hierarchical structure of data. XML is highly flexible and is commonly used for data exchange between different software systems, web services, and in configuration files. It serves as a foundation for various other data formats, including RSS, SVG, and XHTML.
