How to Add a Securiti Consent Banner on Joomla

With an increasing number of countries adopting data privacy regulations, it has become crucial for organizations to have the most appropriate measures and tools at hand to ensure compliance with the obligations such laws place on them.

Each regulation is different, requiring organizations to adhere to various different requirements. However, there are certain obligations that can be found in almost every major data privacy-related legislation, such as cookie obligations.

These cookie obligations require organizations to be clear, transparent, and elaborative in explaining to users how organizations use cookies to collect their data, gain their consent before deploying any cookies, and make it as easy as possible for users to withdraw their consent at any moment.

A cookie consent banner is one such requirement. It is meant as a notice for the user from the website to gain their consent before deploying any cookies. With Securiti’s cookie management solution, organizations can automate the process of deploying such banners across their web sources such as Joomla.

Getting Your Cookie Consent Banner

Here’s how you can generate the cookie consent script with Securiti:

Sign up for Securiti’s Cookie Consent Management module and log in;

Head over to the main Dashboard and click on Cookie Consent;

Click on +New Domain, located on the upper left side of the page;

Create a New Domain Group and enter the Domain Name you want to scan;

Switch over to the Website Scan & Report tab and enter your website’s login info;

Make sure to check the Enable scan behind login box;

Now, enter the login information in the HTML Attributes and Login Details;

Click on Initiate Website Scan. (You can generate a complete report of all the cookies on your domain here);

Switch to the Categorize Cookies tab;

From the Cookie Categories dropdown menu on the left, enable, and edit the cookies on your domain per your needs;

Now, click on Save;

Click Publish in the upper right corner;

Head to the Cookie Consent page with your domain listed and click on Preview under the Consent Banner column;

Finally, navigate to the Consent Code tab to view the Head & Body of the cookie consent script (CSS) code.

Adding Generated Cookie Consent Banner on Joomla

Once you have the cookie script via the method described above, here’s how you can deploy it on Joomla:

Register and sign up for a free Joomla account;

Head over to the Joomla Control Panel;

Go to Extensions > Manage > Install;

Browse for the created file titled, “securiti_ai_cookie_consent.zip” and upload it;

Once the plugin is installed, go to Extensions > Plugins;

Search for “cookie”;

Click on Cookie Consent by Securiti

Now, click on the Plugin tab and paste the CSS code generated earlier;

Change the Status on the right-hand side to Enabled;

Click on Save;

Verify that the banner has been deployed by previewing the Joomla site from the top-right hand corner of the page.
